In today’s fast-paced world, numerous individuals are seeking ways to manage stress, promote healing, and find tranquility. One ancient method that has gained widespread attention in recent years is Reiki healing. Whether you're new to the world of energy healing or curious about how it works, grasping the fundamentals of Reiki can offer you a pathway to mental and physical wellness. In this post, we’ll explore what Reiki is, how it works, and the potential benefits it can bring to your life.

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is described as a Japanese hands-on technique aimed at reducing stress and promoting relaxation, which also facilitates healing. Rei stands for Spiritual Wisdom, and Ki represents Life Energy—together forming the spiritually guided energy known as Reiki. This life force energy operates with its own wisdom, without needing a practitioner's direction. It instinctively understands what an individual requires and adapts itself to produce a suitable effect. The practitioner serves merely as a conduit from the spiritual realm to the physical realm. Reiki can never cause harm and will not drain one's energy.

Reiki is believed to have origins dating back thousands of years, with various styles practiced across Japan. In March 1922, Mikao Usui experienced a mystical encounter with the energy on Mt. Kurama yama. It wasn't until 1923, after the Great Kanto earthquake and tsunami, that he developed his own Reiki system known as Usui Reiki Ryoho. During World War II, other forms of Reiki became less known, while Usui Reiki gained popularity.

In 1938, prior to World War II, Hawayo Takata introduced Usui Reiki to the west by establishing several clinics in Hawaii. After being advised she needed surgery for her tumor, gallstones, appendicitis, and asthma, she turned to Reiki. Within four months, she was completely healed and began learning Reiki herself in 1936.

How Does Reiki Heal?

To comprehend how Reiki aids in healing, we must first understand the function of Ki. Ki (referred to as Chi in Chinese and Prana in Sanskrit) is the life energy that flows through everyone. It is the energy that sustains life, moving through the physical body via pathways known as chakras, meridians, and nadis, as well as through the organs and tissues. This energy nourishes the organs and cells, aiding them in their essential functions. Ki also surrounds us in an energy field commonly called the aura. When Ki flows freely and is balanced, we are healthy; however, disruptions in Ki lead to illness.

Ki is influenced by our thoughts and feelings. By focusing our thoughts and emotions positively, we can enhance the flow of Ki. Conversely, accepting negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves, whether consciously or unconsciously, disrupts Ki, leading to byoki (unhealthy Ki). Byoki can attach not only to the mind but also to the body's organs and tissues.

During a Reiki session, the spiritually aware component of the energy (Rei) identifies the location of byoki and directs healing energy there. When negative thoughts and emotions obstruct Ki, Reiki replaces them with positive thoughts and feelings. Reiki elevates the vibrations in and around the body, causing byoki to dissipate. Sometimes, the entire blocked energy field is elevated to a higher consciousness level for processing. Other times, it is dissolved or burned away, with the client feeling a cold or hot sensation. Once healthy Ki flows naturally and freely, the organs and tissues can complete their healing process.

Reiki honors free will, meaning it will not heal or foster higher states unless invited. Therefore, it is crucial for us to be open to change, to recognize and release unhealthy personal traits, allowing us to progress in our personal healing journey.

What can I expect during a Reiki session with Dee?

Time & Location:

I provide Reiki healing sessions that can be 20, 60, or 90 minutes long. At the moment, I don't have a dedicated location, so sessions can be conducted at your home or online.

Setting:

During the receiving portion of the session, it's recommended to speak very little or remain silent. This enables the receiver to completely relax into the experience. You might hear me moving around the table or exhaling loudly, which is normal and part of the Reiki techniques. You may also hear background music, which helps set the mood and provides another form of energetic healing through frequencies.

To further create a relaxing and safe environment, I enjoy burning incense or using smoke for cleansing, playing healing frequencies as background music, and arranging crystal grids linked to supportive energies. Although these aren't a part of traditional Reiki techniques, I've found it enhances the experience. After booking the session and before we meet, I'll confirm with you whether you're comfortable with this. It's not essential, so if you have allergies, preferences, or health issues that prevent these options, they can be omitted.

During the Session:

Since Reiki is traditionally a hands-on method, I will place my hands on or near your body. If you are sensitive to touch or prefer not to be touched, please inform me before the session begins. Reiki can be administered without physical contact. You might feel warmth from my hands, indicating that Reiki is flowing. At certain points during the session, there will be no physical contact as I will be working with the aura.

As the recipient, you might sense Reiki in a different area than where my hands are positioned. This is due to the body's energetic pathways and is a normal occurrence. It's important to understand that the area where symptoms are felt may not always be the ideal spot for treatment. Therefore, providing detailed information about your concerns for the session is crucial.

Being open and attentive to any bodily sensations is essential for the healing process. You might experience emotions such as sadness, crying, fear, shaking, anger, or sweating. These reactions are common and normal. The body may have other ways of expressing feelings, and when this happens, old emotions stored in your system are surfacing to be released. If these feelings arise, try to remain present and let them flow. Use your breath as an anchor. I am here to provide a safe and comfortable space for you to express your emotions, which I will allow as long as I believe you will not accidentally harm yourself (e.g., body shaking that could cause you to fall off the table).
